Purpose For investigation of incidence and treatment of double crush syndrome, which means symptoms and signs related to multiple entrapment and irritation of more than one nerve. Materials and Methods: We researched the incidence of double crush syndrome from 129 patients with nerve entrapment syndrome of upper extremities and evaluated preoperative and postoperative function, pain and numbness by Cseuz Criteria1 and Visual Analogue Scale from March 2004 to May 2007. The average of age was 46.5 (15-79), follow up duration was 8.8 months (3-39). Results: Nerve entrapment syndrome of upper extremities were 158 cases, 110 were single entrapment neuropathy, 48 were double crush syndrome. Function, pain and numbness were improved in patients treated simultaneously with multiple lesion relative to patient get sequential treatment or treated with single lesion. Conclusion: Double crush syndrome not responses well with conservative therapy and often recurs after operative treatment. It is necessary to evaluate whether existence of double crush syndrome or not before carrying out an operative treatment of nerve entrapment syndrome. |
