Abstract
Traumatic rupture of flexor tendons due to closed direct trauma without an associated pathologic condition are rare. We report a patient who sustained a flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) tendon rupture 1cm proximal to its insertion on his left ring finger as a result of a closed, traumatic impact to his digit with no accompanying laceration or predisposing pathologic condition. Preoperative MRI showed complete rupture of FDP and the gap between the tendon ends. The reconstruction of flexor tendon using palmaris longus tendon was performed. End result at 1 year 4 months, although there is mild flexion deformity, but a total of 50 degrees of strong flexion has been gained at the DIP joint.
