Abstract |
Lipofibromatous harmatoma is a rare, benign neoplasm that usually involved the median nerve. Involvement of other nerves, such as the radial, ulnar and palmar nerves and the brachial plexus, is extremely rare. The tumor is limited to within the epineural sheaths, which is intact, shiny, orange-yellow, firm thick, and non-resilient to dissection. One case involved the volar ulnar digital nerve of the thumb, treated with a partial excision and the other case involved the volar radial digital nerve of the index finger, treated with a complete excision. Treatment of this benign neoplasm is controversial. The ideal plan is release the fascia overlying the tumor has commonly resulted in decrease in the size of the mass, alleviation of pain, improvement of the strength of opposition, and alleviation of irritating sensory symtoms. |
