Abstract
Avulsion injury of the flexor digitorum profundus tendon from the distal phalanx is considered as a rare injury. Most reports of the flexor digitorum profundus tendon avulsions have mentioned only small fractures of the distal phalanx attached to the avulsed tendon. According to the classification by Leddy and Packer, this case is Type III, which is a large bony fragment retained by the tendon. The distal pulley prevents retraction beyond the middle phalanx. Specially, avulsed bony fragment extended over 50% of the volar side of the distal phalanx and involved articular surface. There was an associated dorsal subluxation of the distal phalanx. We performed operative treatment using K-wire fixation after anatomical reduction. We are reporting a case with brief review of literatures.
