Abstract
Peripheral nerve tumors are rare, having an incidence of 1 per 100 000 per annum. A schwannoma that developed in the median nerve of a 60-yr old woman is presented. Compression of the motor branch of the median nerve by the tumor caused weakness and wasting of the abductor pollicis brevis muscle. Return of function of the abductor pollicis brevis muscle was noted after enucleation. MRI images, intraoperative findings and pathology of the tumor are discussed.
