Purpose : The subungual glomus tumor is one of rare tumors in hands. We report our experience on subungual glomus tumor. Materials and Methods : Eighteen patients(21 cases) of subungual glomus tumors are treated in our hospital from Apr. 1992 to Jan. 2000. We report clinical symptoms, physical findings and surgical method and its results. Results : The pain and local tenderness are present in all cases, the aggravation of pain under cold environment in 9 cases(43%), subungual focal discoloration in 8 cases(38%), and nail deformity in 4 cases(19%). Also, 6 cases(29%) showed radiolucent lesion in simple radiographs. One case is recurred, but the other all cases have showed complete loss of pain and no nail deformity. Conclusion : The subungual glomus tumor is a rare disease, however, it can be diagnosed on their characteristic clinical manifestations with ease. They must be surgically excised for the complete cure. Nail itself should be preserved for the better postoperative care and prevention of the nail deformity. |
