Abstract
Ankylosed, fused or congenital symphalangism in finger joint could be treated using interpositional arthroplasties with iliac apophysis, rib cartilage or tensor fascia lata. We analysed functional end results of 13 cases of various interpositional arthroplasties. We used with iliac apophysis in 4 cases, rib cartilage in 3 cases and tensor fascia lata in 6 cases. 35-70% of normal finger motions was obtained, but mild finger instabilities, bony atrophy were inevitable, especially in children. Partial arthroplasty with iliac apophysis and total arthroplasties with rib cartilage and tensor fascia lata were effective in children. Post-operative vigorous physiotherapy was also necessary.
