Abstract |
Various operative methods have been advocated for the treatment of the mallet finger. The purpose of this study is to report the authors' experience with this method for the treatment of mallet finger patients. From June 1996 to December 1999, we reviewed 56 mallet finger patients who were treated with the hyperextension K-wire fixation technique. The patients were classified by the Hooper`s classifiation method and postoperative results were evaluated by Crawford criteria. The average duration of K-wire fixation was 6.5 weeks. According to Crawford criteria, excellent or good results were obtained in 53 cases. Three patients suffered from the pin site infection and the result of these patients were one fair and two poors. The hyperextension K-wire fixation technique is a simple and reliable technique for the treatment of mallet finger patients and is relatively comfortable to the patients. We think this simple technique is applicable to every mallet finger patients. |
