Abstract
We have evaluated the recovery of sensibility and the factors that have influenced the results after primary median nerve repair at the wrist. Between Jun. 1990 and Dec.1998, 25 cases of median nerve injury by laceration at the wrist were treated by epiperineurial neurorrhaphy primarily. These cases were assessed as static and dynamic two-point discrimination test, pain, cold intolerance and classified by sensory recovery according to the British Medical Research Council. The following results were obtained: S4 in 7cases (28%), S3+ in 6cases(24%), S3 in 7cases(28%), S2 in 4cases (16%), and S1 in 1case(4%). The patients under the age of 15 years old were assessed as S3+ or S4. We have had results above S3 in 80% of the patients and confirmed the significant correlation between age and functional sensibility improvement(p=0.015).
