Abstract
Metacarpal synostosis is a rare congenital anomaly and little has been reported about this entity. Some others had repceted this anomaly as the absence of fifth metacarpals, syndactyly type V, bilateral ulnar thumbs, or congenital metacarpal malformation. Synostosis most commomly involves the ring and little finger metacarpals. Usually in the metacarpal synostosis, the ring and little fingers are widely separated at its ends and the little finger is hypoplastic, Cosmesis is the main indication of the surgical treatment rather than the function. There is no universally accepted guide lines of treatment methods. We have experienced the eongenital metacarpal synostosis between the left 4th and 5th metacarpal bones and managed two stages operation. We have obtained a cosmetically and functionally good end result.
