Abstract
In past years, the result of primary repair of acute flexor tendon injuries in zone II was notorious because of the high frequency of the adhesion. But more recently, with the use of the operating microscope in the tendon repair and early controlled mobilization, the functional result has been improved. In this study, the postoperative status of the 168 digits with complete division of the flexor tendons in zone II, which was treated by primary repair and early controlled mobilization, was evaluated. Using the Strickland formula method, final outcomes of the total active motion of the interphalangeal joints were satisfactory as follows;114 digits(68%) were rated "Excellent", 25 digits(15 %) were rated "Good", 22 digits(13%) were rated "Fair", and 7 digits(4%) were rated "Poor". We concluded that the good result in the primary tendon repair of the zone II flexor tendon injury could be obtained by meticulous tenorrhaphy under magnification and early postoperative controlled mobilization.
